A little history

"Damask specialist Frette was founded in 1860, and ever since has supplied grand Italian families like the Borgheses, the Colonnas and the Viscontis. Frette also furnished fine linen for the Orient Express sleeping cars." "Today, traditional linen damask, whether old or new, is sought out only by people with either highly conventional or highly refined taste. Italy...is perhaps the best illustration of this, since it produces some of the most beautiful damask...service, the most refined of which are the work of the Frette firm of Milan."

--The Book of Fine Linen by Françoise de Bonneville, pp. 29 and 189, respectively, (c) 1994, Flammarion, 26, rue Racine, 75006 Paris, France.
Translated from the French by Deke Dusinberre.
